Recent news from Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP

Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP (WJM) has marked an exciting start to 2025 with the announcement it is set to join forces with commercial law firm Davidson Chalmers Stewart.

The move, one of the most significant deals in both firms’ history, follows investment in WJM from Irwin Mitchell and marks a major step in their strategic plan for growth in Scotland.

Davidson Chalmers Stewart’s 70-plus staff will transfer across to WJM, strengthening key business areas including corporate, real estate, and commercial dispute resolution.

Together the firms will have over 200 colleagues including 46 Partners across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Dunblane, and Galashiels. Their combined sector specialisms are wide ranging and include planning, renewable energy, estate planning, business and professional services, real estate, construction, health and social care, rural business and housebuilding.

The firms are a great fit, with shared culture and values and complementary areas of expertise.

Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie has also confirmed a raft of promotions across the firm.

Sarajane Drake from the firm’s Commercial Property team in Glasgow office has become the firm’s youngest partner at just 33, while Hannah Prentice (Inverness) and Annie Pearson (Glasgow) have also stepped up to Partner, bringing deep expertise in estate planning and tax.

WJM has also introduced the new role of Senior Legal Director, appointing Katy Davenport and Fiona Kempsell who will combine their legal expertise with management and mentoring responsibilities.

Managing Partner Fraser Gillies said all five exemplify the talent and dedication of WJM’s exemplary team, adding: “We are excited about the future and the opportunities ahead for our people and our clients.”
